Classes and teaching
Where this works
- Works todayStudents joining with a class code, in WolfStorm (Wolf World then Games & Stories then Adventures... (in WolfStorm: Wolf World then Adventures...)).
- In WolfViewer now (Speedy Xenon)The Teacher Console and the quiz editor, in WolfViewer.
- On across Wolf Territories (each region at its next restart)Class sessions in the world.
A game can be a lesson. Under Advanced editing > Outline set its purpose to Education. That makes it rated General, joined with a class code, with free typing off and accuracy mode on. It needs at least one source card before it can be published.
Get the lesson ready
- On the Lore page, add Source cards: facts with where they come from. In accuracy mode, characters answer only from these, show the source, and say they don’t know rather than make things up.
- On the Lore page’s Learning tab, write what the game and each part of it teach: goals and key facts.
- On the Quizzes tab, press Add a quiz and Add a question (up to 20). Questions can be multiple choice, a short text answer (marked automatically, not case-sensitive) or an essay that you mark. The pass mark starts at 60%. Import QTI 3.0... brings in questions from other tools.
- Show the quiz with the step Show a quiz on the Story page, or tell the helper which box asks it.
- The owner gives you the Teacher role under Advanced editing > Publish, if you aren’t the owner.
Start a class
- Step 1: Open Wolf World then Games & Stories then Teacher Console... and go to Classes.
- Step 2: Under New class, pick the game and type a class name, such as Year 9 History. Choose teams (or one party), free typing on or off, and a language if you like.
- Step 3: Press Create the class. You get a join code of 8 letters and numbers. Press Copy and give it to your students.
Students open Wolf World then Games & Stories then Adventures... (in WolfStorm: Wolf World then Adventures...), type the code in the class code box on the game (WolfStorm: Class code (if your teacher gave you one)), and join. Every class starts fresh.
During the lesson
The Live page lists every student: where they are, which box they are on, parts done and quiz scores. Stuck means no progress for 5 minutes. From here you can:
- Pause everyone and Resume
- Gather everyone at a spot
- Ask the class a quiz
- Message the class
- turn free typing on or off
- End the class session
After the lesson
- Answers: mark essays Correct or Incorrect, with points.
- Report: Download CSV gives one row per student, with the columns Name, Team, Scenes done, Scenes, Quizzes, Ending and Minutes since joining. Download JSON has everything.
- Connections: send results to your school’s learning record store, a system that collects learning results, using the xAPI standard. Links for school learning systems (LTI) come later. Planned for later
Safe for classes
Class sessions are always rated General, the AI tag is always shown on AI lines, characters don’t speak aloud, and the teacher can read the class’s conversations.
