Voices

Where this works

  • Works todayChoosing a voice for each character on Your characters, the voice settings, and hearing a voice, in WolfStorm’s Studio.
  • In WolfViewer now (Speedy Xenon)The same in WolfViewer.
  • On across Wolf Territories (each region at its next restart)Hearing characters speak to players in the world. Until then players see every line as text only.

Characters can speak their lines out loud through voice chat, with the text shown as a caption. Players nearby with voice switched on hear them. On Your characters you pick each character’s voice and press Hear them to hear their first line; only you hear it.

Switch voices on

  1. Step 1: Press Advanced editing at the foot of Your story map, then AI and voice. Turn Spoken voices on.
  2. Step 2: Set Spoken characters a day (WolfViewer: Characters spoken a day; it starts at 50,000). Every spoken character counts, free voices included.
  3. Step 3: The Cast talk page also has each character’s Voice and Speed, from 0.5 (slow) to 2 (fast), with Preview voice to hear their greeting.

Free voices

Nine voices cost nothing. They are listed as free in the voice picker:

Premium voices

Under Premium voice (ElevenLabs) you can pick more natural voices. These cost WolfCredits for every character spoken, paid by the game’s owner:

  • The price is shown next to each premium voice, as credits per 100 characters spoken. It works out at about 0.6 credits (0.6 US cents) per 100 characters. Lines you write into your adventure are voiced once when you publish and then replay free, so only lines the AI makes up are paid for each time. Always go by the price in the picker.
  • The Studio asks you once to confirm before you use a premium voice.
  • If a premium voice can’t be used, for example when a daily limit is reached, the line is spoken in a free voice instead.

When characters stay silent

Characters don’t speak aloud in class sessions. Everything a character says always appears as text too, so players without sound miss nothing. Players can turn character voices down on the Roleplay window’s Look page.
